Laser Cladding (LMD)

Laser cladding, also known as Laser Metal Deposition (LMD), is an additive manufacturing method used to apply metallic coatings to components to improve their properties or repair damaged surfaces. The process involves feeding metal powder into a melt pool generated by a high-intensity laser beam. Unlike other coating processes, such as thermal spraying, the filler material fuses with the base material.

Laser cladding also provides a much lower dilution rate with the base material compared with conventional overlay welding, which results in better properties in the surface layer.
