Non-destructive testing

Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an important method for inspecting and ensuring the quality of materials and structures without causing damage. By using methods such as Penetrant Testing (PT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), we can effectively detect surface defects such as cracks, pores, or lack of fusion on or just below the surface of welds, hardened parts, forged stock and machined materials. These methods are particularly useful for products and structures with high safety requirements, where even small defects may have serious consequences.

Penetrant Testing (PT)

Penetrant Testing (PT) is a method where a coloured or fluorescent liquid is applied to the surface of the object. The liquid penetrates into cracks or pores and becomes visible under UV light or with the help of a contrast colour. PT is particularly effective at finding surface defects on non-porous materials such as metal, plastic and ceramics. It is a fast and cost-effective method for identifying surface defects, making it ideal for inspecting, for example, welds and other surfaces critical to the durability of the product.

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is used to detect surface defects on ferromagnetic materials such as iron and steel. By creating a magnetic field in the inspected object and applying magnetic particles to the surface, defects such as cracks or pores can be identified. If there is a defect on the surface, the magnetic field will be disturbed, and the magnetic particles will accumulate at the defect, making it easy to see. MT is an effective method for inspecting welds, forged parts and other metal components that are critical to structural integrity.
